Frequently Asked Questions about our
200H Yoga Teacher Training and Continuing Education Programs
What is Yoga Teacher Training (YTT)? What should I expect while in the program?
Yoga Teacher Training is a structured program designed to deepen your understanding of yoga — its philosophy, history, anatomy, and teaching methodology. It’s also the pathway to becoming a certified yoga teacher if you wish to teach professionally. The 200-hour training is the globally acceptable foundational course for aspiring teachers.
A typical training day is a balanced mix of movement, study, and reflection. You’ll usually begin with morning meditation, breathwork, and asana practice. Midday sessions often cover the subjects: yoga philosophy, anatomy, teaching methodology. Afternoons focus on practicum and practice teaching, where you apply what you’ve learned. Each day closes with group reflection or a gentle practice to integrate the lessons. Expect full but fulfilling days that challenge you, support your growth, and create space for connection with your peers.
Why join a 200-hour YTT that is accredited by Yoga Alliance?
Choosing a Yoga Alliance–accredited training ensures your certification is recognized internationally, giving you the option to teach anywhere in the world. It also means the program meets global standards for yoga education, covering philosophy, anatomy, teaching methodology, and professional ethics. Even if you don’t plan to teach, it’s a guarantee that you’re receiving a comprehensive and high-quality training.
Do I need to be advanced in yoga to join?
Not at all. You don’t need to be able to do advanced poses or have years of practice. A consistent yoga practice and a genuine interest in learning are more important than “perfect” flexibility or strength.
We do, however, require our YTT trainees to immerse themselves in asana and meditation practice for at least a month before training starts. In Treehouse, unlimited access to our classes begins one month before training, as part of your enrollment. This is how you prepare for the program.
What certification will I receive after completing the program? And what if I don't want to teach?
Upon successfully completing the 200H YTT, you will receive a Yoga Alliance–recognized 200-hour certificate, allowing you to register as an RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) and teach worldwide. This certificate also ensures that your yoga training investment has a long-term outlook and validity.
Many students join YTT simply to deepen their personal practice and understanding of yoga. Teaching is an option, not a requirement.
If you are a certified yoga teacher already, you will receive a YACEP certificate with the number of continuing education units equivalent to the hours of training.
Why join a YACEP (Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider) program?
A YACEP course allows registered yoga teachers to continue their education, deepen their skills, and maintain their Yoga Alliance credentials. These programs focus on specialized areas such as anatomy, meditation, trauma-informed yoga, or advanced teaching techniques. Joining a YACEP not only keeps your certification active but also helps you grow as a teacher, expand your offerings, and stay inspired in your practice.
Will I have to take an exam?
Yes, there will be practical assessments — designed to ensure you feel confident and prepared as a teacher and to validate your understanding of the modules. Most of our YTT assessments are practical in nature; we believe that yoga is not memorized but lived and practiced. Our assessments focus more on finding your teaching voice and embrace your authenticity as a human being teaching yoga.
How many students are in each training? Will I have a mentor?
We are deliberately keeping our batches small, with only 8 slots for the 200H YTT and 3 slots per standalone YACEP program to ensure personalized guidance and mentorship.
Throughout the training, you’ll receive 1:1 mentorship from lead trainers and faculty through practice teaching, feedback sessions, and group discussions. After graduation, mentoring continues through community support, opportunities to assist in classes, and one-on-one check-ins with your trainers. This ensures you don’t just complete the program but also feel confident and supported as you step into your teaching journey.
Do I automatically get to teach in Treehouse after training?
Graduates join our yoga community with access to mentorship, teaching opportunities, and discounted continuing education programs in the future. Teaching opportunities are not guaranteed due to demand, but our graduates are tapped to join as guest teachers or substitute teachers from time to time.
